Sweeps Coins explained: value, playthrough and redemption
What Sweeps Coins are, how they differ from Gold Coins, what 1 SC is worth, and how playthrough, expiry and redemption work, with per-brand official rules.
Key takeaways
- Sweeps Coins (SC) are a promotional currency: you receive them free, and once played through they can be redeemed for prizes. Gold Coins are bought, played and never redeemable.
- The usual conversion is 1 SC = $1 in prizes. High 5's official rules state this outright.
- Redemption minimums in current official rules: Modo 20 SC (gift card) or 50 SC (cash); Zula and Sportzino 50 SC; High 5 50 SC (non-cash) or 100 SC (cash).
- Mail-in requests are worth 3 SC at Modo and High 5 and 5 SC at Zula and Sportzino.
- Sweeps Coins can expire: Zula and Sportzino SC lapse 60 days after your last login.
Sweeps Coins are the half of a sweepstakes casino’s economy that can turn into a prize. Four rules decide what they are worth to you: how you get them, their conversion value, how much you must play them, and how redemption works.
What are Sweeps Coins?
Sweeps Coins (SC) are a promotional sweepstakes currency. Zula’s rules describe them as a promotional currency that may, under certain circumstances, be redeemed for real-money prizes. You do not buy them: they arrive free, as a bonus with Gold Coin purchases, at sign-up, through daily rewards or by mail-in request. Once played through, they can be exchanged for cash or gift-card prizes.
Brands do not all use the same name. Stake.us calls its version “Stake Cash”, and some operators use other labels, but the mechanics are the same.
Gold Coins vs Sweeps Coins
| Gold Coins (GC) | Sweeps Coins (SC) | |
|---|---|---|
| How you get them | Bought in packages; also given free | Free only: bonus with GC purchases, sign-up, daily rewards, mail-in |
| Can you buy them? | Yes | No (High 5’s rules: not under any circumstances) |
| Redeemable? | Never | Yes, after playthrough and KYC |
| Typical value | None | 1 SC = $1 in prizes |
| Purpose | Entertainment play | Sweepstakes entries |
Gold Coins also go by other names. High 5 calls them “Game Coins”, Crown Coins uses “Crown Coins”, and the Blazesoft group’s terms (Fortune Wins, Sportzino) record a March 28, 2025 change replacing references to Gold Coins with “Virtual Coins” (Fortune Wins terms).
Promotional vs redeemable Sweeps Coins
Not every coin in your SC balance can be redeemed. Operators separate SC you have just received, which is still promotional, from SC that has met the playthrough requirement and become eligible for a prize. Only the redeemable portion counts toward the redemption minimum.
How to get Sweeps Coins
- With a Gold Coin purchase. The SC is framed as a free gift with the package.
- Sign-up and daily rewards. Amounts change often and are frequently set outside the official rules. The Blazesoft rules also list Facebook connection, phone verification and referrals as free SC sources.
- Mail-in request (AMOE). The free “no purchase necessary” route the sweepstakes model relies on: 3 SC per request at Modo and High 5, 5 SC at Zula and Sportzino.
Step-by-step mail-in instructions and a worked example of what free coins are worth are on our free Sweeps Coins guide. Purchase bonuses, referrals and other promotions are covered in sweepstakes casino bonuses.
What is 1 Sweeps Coin worth in USD?
The usual conversion is 1 SC = $1 in prizes, and High 5’s rules state it directly. The conversion only applies to redeemable SC above the minimum, so a 40 SC balance at a brand with a 50 SC cash minimum is worth nothing in cash until it grows.
Florida residents face extra caps in some rules. Modo limits Florida redemptions to $5,000 per entry period, and the Blazesoft rules cap a single SC play win in Florida below 5,000 SC.
Win caps and state limits
Some rules cap how much SC you can win or redeem, regardless of the 1:1 value. Zula caps wins at 50,000 SC within 48 hours. In states where an operator offers Gold Coin play only, such as the ten states where Global Poker switches off Sweeps Coins, you cannot earn or redeem SC at all, even if the site still loads (Global Poker availability). Each operator’s rules list its excluded states, and those lists change as new laws take effect, so recheck them if you move or if your state passes a ban.
Playthrough requirements
Playthrough (also called a wagering requirement) is the number of times SC must be played before it is redeemable. A 1x requirement on 20 SC means placing 20 SC of plays; a 2x requirement means 40 SC.
- Modo: at least 1x; the rules allow up to 30x.
- High 5: at least 1x; more at the operator’s discretion.
- Zula and Sportzino: set by the operator, with 2x given as an example. Plays on “WAR” do not count.
A worked example of playthrough and minimums is in how sweepstakes casinos work.
How to redeem Sweeps Coins
- Meet the playthrough so the coins move into your redeemable balance.
- Complete KYC. Modo requires a government photo ID, a biometric face scan, proof of address and SSN validation. Zula requires KYC before mail-in coins can be redeemed.
- Choose a prize method and request at least the minimum. Modo allows one request per day.
- Wait for processing. Modo allows up to 30 days and may charge handling or processing fees. Its rules also let it refund purchases instead of paying a prize in some cases.
Prizes can carry tax consequences. Modo’s rules require your SSN once redemptions exceed $600.
Do Sweeps Coins expire?
Yes, at some brands. Zula’s and Sportzino’s rules say SC expires 60 days after your last login, so an inactive account can lose its balance. We did not find an expiry term in our review of Modo’s or High 5’s rules; check the current versions before leaving a balance idle. Separately, when a brand closes or leaves a state, it sets a final redemption date; LuckyLand Slots’ window closed on September 14, 2026 (closure timeline).
Per-brand Sweeps Coin rules
Taken from each operator’s official rules as accessed on October 4, 2026. “Not verified” means we could not confirm the figure in an official document.
| Brand | Minimum redemption | Mail-in (AMOE) per request | Playthrough | SC expiry | Rules version |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Modo | 20 SC gift card / 50 SC cash | 3 SC | At least 1x; up to 30x allowed | Not found in rules reviewed | Official Rules, Oct 1, 2026 |
| Zula | 50 SC | 5 SC | Operator-set (2x example) | 60 days after last login | v2.6, Aug 28, 2026 |
| Sportzino | 50 SC per request | 5 SC | Operator-set (2x example) | 60 days after last login | v2.4 |
| High 5 | 50 SC non-cash / 100 SC cash | 3 SC | At least 1x; more at discretion | Not found in rules reviewed | v43.0, Jun 26, 2026 |
| Chumba (historical) | 100 SC (2024 rules) | Not verified | Not verified | Not verified | v9.1, Mar 11, 2024 |
The only Chumba Sweeps Rules we could read are version 9.1 from March 2024. The current version may differ, so treat the 100 SC minimum as historical until we confirm it.
Are Sweeps Coins really free?
Operators say yes; regulators increasingly say no. New York’s Attorney General found that VGW’s players received approximately one Sweeps Coin for every dollar spent, and VGW agreed to an $8 million settlement on September 9, 2026 (NY AG; our settlement report). Florida’s Attorney General described Sweeps Coins bundled with Gold Coin packages as functioning like redeemable wagering credits (Florida AG). Whatever the legal outcome, the practical point holds: if you are buying Gold Coins to get Sweeps Coins, you are spending real money.
