LuckyLand Slots Has Closed: Final Redemptions Ended Sept. 14
VGW wound down its LuckyLand Slots sweepstakes site in three stages over six weeks. Its separate LuckyLand Casino product is not affected, according to trade press.
- What happened
- LuckyLand Slots, a VGW sweepstakes casino, has permanently closed. Gold Coin purchases ended August 3, 2026, gameplay ended August 24, and the final window to redeem Sweeps Coins closed September 14, according to Gambling Insider.
- Why it matters
- It is one of the best-known sweepstakes brands to shut down, during a period of heavy state pressure on its owner, and its staged wind-down shows how a closure plays out for players holding a balance.
- Who is affected
- Former LuckyLand Slots players, especially anyone who did not redeem eligible Sweeps Coins by September 14. VGW's Chumba Casino and Global Poker continue to operate.
- What happens next
- Players who believe they had an unredeemed eligible balance should contact VGW support and keep records. At The Win Zone, another closing site, redemptions are open until October 23, 2026.
VGW launched LuckyLand Slots in 2018, according to the New York attorney general. Its shutdown took six weeks from the end of coin sales to the end of redemptions.
A note on sourcing. The closure dates in this article come from Gambling Insider’s monthly sweepstakes updates for August and September 2026, a trade publication and therefore a secondary source. LuckyLand’s own site was not accessible to our research tools, so we have not confirmed the dates or wording against an official VGW notice. If VGW publishes a statement we can review, we will update this article.
The three-stage shutdown
According to Gambling Insider, VGW closed LuckyLand Slots in three steps:
| Date | What stopped |
|---|---|
| August 3, 2026 | Gold Coin purchases |
| August 24, 2026 | Gameplay |
| September 14, 2026 | Sweeps Coin redemptions (final window closed) |
This sequence matters if you play at any sweepstakes casino. The site stops taking money first, then stops play, then gives a fixed period to redeem eligible balances. VGW used the same pattern when it ended sweepstakes play in West Virginia in November 2025: play ended November 18 and redemptions closed November 25, according to trade press. That window was one week. LuckyLand’s was three.
Gambling Insider reports that VGW’s separate LuckyLand Casino product is not affected by the closure. We have not confirmed that from VGW directly.
Why LuckyLand closed
We have not seen a public explanation from VGW, and we will not speculate on one. The timing is notable, though. The wind-down began before Florida’s attorney general sued VGW on August 19, 2026, over Chumba, LuckyLand Slots, LuckyLand Casino and Global Poker (our coverage). It ended days after VGW agreed to an $8 million settlement with New York’s attorney general on September 9 (our coverage). New statewide bans also took effect during 2026 in Indiana, Maine, Louisiana and Tennessee, with Oklahoma’s due on November 1 (our explainer).
Not the only closure
LuckyLand is the biggest name, but not the only one. Gambling Insider also reported these closures in August and September 2026:
- The Money Factory, closed August 9.
- LuckyStake, closed August 21.
- CoinFrenzy, closed after September 7.
- The Win Zone, which stopped purchases September 22 and play September 24, with redemptions open until October 23, 2026.
If you have a balance at The Win Zone, that last date is the one to watch.
What former players can do
If you missed the September 14 deadline, there is no published process we can point you to. Reasonable steps are:
- Contact VGW customer support in writing, with your account email and the balance you believe was eligible.
- Keep screenshots of your balance and any closure emails.
- Check whether your state’s attorney general accepts consumer complaints about sweepstakes operators.
Sweeps Coins that never met the playthrough requirement, or that were below the redemption minimum, were generally not redeemable even while the site was open. Our explainer on how sweepstakes casinos work covers playthrough and minimums.
Where VGW stands now
Chumba Casino and Global Poker remain open in states where VGW still offers Sweeps Coin play. VGW’s own terms list a growing set of states where Sweeps Coin play is not available. If you are looking for a replacement for LuckyLand, our Chumba Casino alternatives page compares other operators on their published rules. State-by-state status is in our sweepstakes legal tracker.
