About Chance Ledger: Who We Are and How We Work

Who we are, what we cover, how we work, how we stay independent and what we are not. An honest account of a new research publication.

Chance Ledger is an independent research publication about two fast-changing US markets: prediction markets and sweepstakes casinos. We explain how they work, what they cost, where they are legal, and how the platforms compare, using primary sources wherever they exist.

Who we are

We are a new publication. Chance Ledger launched in 2026, and we would rather tell you that plainly than imply a history we do not have.

Our research and drafting are assisted by AI tools. Every page is assembled from cited sources by our Research Desk, and a human editor must review and approve it before it is published. The standards that editor applies are set out in our editorial policy and fact-checking process.

You will notice that our Standards Editor profile is marked as a placeholder. That position is open. We would rather show an open position than invent a name, a photo or credentials. When a named editor joins, their real profile will replace the placeholder, and nothing on the site will claim qualifications nobody holds.

What we cover

Prediction markets. These are CFTC-regulated exchanges and the brokers that route customers to them, including Kalshi, Polymarket US, Robinhood, FanDuel Predicts and others. We cover fees, how contracts settle, which states restrict which products, and the court fight over whether sports event contracts are subject to state gambling law.

Sweepstakes casinos. These sites use two currencies, one for play only and one that can be redeemed for prizes. We cover how they work, their official sweepstakes rules, redemption minimums, free-entry methods, and the fast-growing list of states that ban or restrict them.

We publish four kinds of content:

  • Guides that explain how something works.
  • Documentary reviews of individual platforms.
  • Comparisons and rankings.
  • News and legal trackers that follow court rulings, laws and enforcement.

How we work

Our reviews are documentary reviews. We build them from the operator’s own terms, fee schedules, sweepstakes rules and help pages, plus court records, statutes and regulator releases. We have not yet opened accounts, deposited money or redeemed prizes, and we do not claim to have. When hands-on testing begins, we will say exactly what was tested and when. Our methodology explains how we rank platforms and why we do not publish numeric scores yet.

Every factual claim on a page should trace to a source listed under “Sources for this page” at the bottom of that page, with the date we accessed it. Legal status is always dated, because it can change week to week.

What we are not

  • We are not an operator. We do not run a prediction market, an exchange, a casino or a sweepstakes. You cannot trade, play or deposit on this site.
  • We are not a regulator and do not license or certify anyone.
  • We are not your lawyer, tax adviser or financial adviser. Our legal trackers summarize public sources; they are not legal advice. Nothing here is a recommendation to buy or sell any contract.
  • We do not encourage gambling or speculation. Both prediction markets and sweepstakes casinos can cost you money. Our responsible play page lists warning signs and free, confidential help.

Independence

What we cover and how we rank is decided editorially, under our published policies. Any future commercial relationship will be kept separate from those decisions, and our methodology applies the same published criteria to every platform, whether or not we have a commercial relationship with it. If we get something wrong, we correct it openly; see the corrections policy. How the site is funded, and what payment can never buy, is set out in our affiliate disclosure.

How to reach us

Email is the only way to reach us. We do not list a phone number or office address.
